HSE with sponsorship scheme: Carers and support staff can study nursing course

Dublin: A scheme to train as nurses or midwives for those working as carers in Ireland has begun. Those who qualify for admission to nursing courses in any college by applying to one of the country’s Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) through Ireland’s Central Application Office will be eligible for sponsorship (CAO).

Sponsorship for training is also available under this scheme for those working as support staff in the Irish Public Health Service.

If you qualify in the first round of selection, your basic salary will be guaranteed for the duration of your nursing or midwifery degree programme. Under this scheme, it is also necessary to continue doing current work while studying during the course’s study period.

Applicants must have at least two years of experience working as carers or support staff in the Irish Public Health Service before January 1st of this year.

Those who are above 23 years of age (mature students) as of January 1st can apply.

Those who pass the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) assessment exam will be sponsored and included in the scheme.

The HSE has also stated that candidates who pass the course and obtain NMBI registration through the sponsorship programme must serve the equivalent of a five-year bond for the health department.
