“Keir Starmer Sets to Become Prime Minister as Labour Party Takes Power in Britain”

London: The Labour Party has come to power, ending the 14-year rule of the Conservative Party in Britain with a decisive victory in the parliamentary elections. This victory ensures that Labour Party leader Keir Starmer will become the new Prime Minister.

The Conservative Party has been reduced to just 72 seats, while the Labour Party has secured an absolute majority, with 359 seats currently confirmed. This marks a significant shift in power, with Labour surpassing the 325 seats needed for a majority. The Conservative Party lost 172 seats compared to the 2019 election. The Liberal Democrats came in third with 46 seats.

The election results align closely with exit poll predictions. The party standings are as follows: Labour Party 359, Conservative Party 72, Liberal Democrats 46, Scottish Nationalist Party 4, Reform UK 4, Plaid Cymru 4, Greens 1, DUP 2, and Others 6.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has conceded defeat, accepting responsibility for the Conservative Party’s performance. He congratulated Keir Starmer on the Labour Party’s victory. Starmer responded, saying, “Tonight the people have spoken. They are ready for change. Change starts here.”

Indians Shine in British Parliament

Indians have made a mark in the British general election. Sojan Joseph, a Labour Party candidate from the Ashford constituency, emerged victorious, defeating former British Deputy Prime Minister and Conservative Party candidate Damian Green. This win is historic, as it is the first time a Labour candidate has won in Ashford since its establishment 139 years ago.

Sojan Joseph, a 49-year-old native of Kaipuzha, Kottayam (Kerala), moved to Britain in 2001 for work after completing his nursing studies in India. He initially joined William Harvey Hospital as a mental health nurse. Active in politics, he joined the Labour Party in 2015. His victory is a significant milestone for the Labour Party in Ashford.

Rishi Sunak Admits Defeat

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has conceded defeat in the general election held in Britain. In a speech to supporters in Richmond and Northern Alert, Sunak expressed his regret and took responsibility for the Conservative Party’s performance. He acknowledged the Labour Party’s victory and congratulated Keir Starmer on the win.
