Rain and Thunderstorm Warnings Issued Across Ireland and Northern Ireland
Dublin: The Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather alert for Leinster, Tipperary, and Waterford, including the Dublin region, forecasting heavy rainfall and potential thunderstorms until 2:00 PM today.
The national forecaster warned of localised flooding, travel disruptions, and poor visibility due to the adverse conditions. A similar yellow alert remains in place for Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, and Sligo from 2:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with further risks of thunderstorms and intense rainfall.
The severe weather follows a tragic incident in County Cavan last Friday, where ten cattle were fatally struck by lightning on a farm, highlighting the hazards associated with current storm activity.
Meanwhile, the UK Met Office has also issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Northern Ireland, effective from 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM today. The alert applies to Counties Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh, and Tyrone, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms moving northward, potentially causing significant disruption across the region.
Authorities are advising the public to exercise caution, especially while travelling, and to stay updated with local weather alerts.
