Weather Alert: Snow and Heavy Rain Forecast Across Ireland

Dublin: Weather forecasters have warned of further snowfall and heavy rain across parts of Ireland as strengthening low pressure systems move over the country this week.

The Donegal Weather Channel has forecast unsettled conditions, with strong winds and heavy rain, alongside sleet and snow in some areas on Tuesday. Met Éireann has also confirmed that snowfall is likely, particularly in higher ground, as rain is expected to turn to snow during Tuesday morning and afternoon.

Forecast models from ECMWF and UKMO indicate that low pressure will dominate on Tuesday, increasing the risk of disruptive weather. Snow is expected to be a significant issue in elevated areas, while heavy rainfall may affect lower-lying regions.

Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather said rain could briefly fall as snow or sleet in higher areas before turning back to rain. He also warned of prolonged wet conditions, predicting that parts of the southeast could receive more than 100mm of rain Thursday.

Met Éireann Forecast

Monday will be cloudy, humid and windy, with rain spreading from the west and southwest across the country. Rain may be heavy at times. As temperatures fall on Monday night, rain is expected to turn to snow, followed by a colder, clearer night with local frost. Minimum temperatures will range from -2°C to +1°C.

Tuesday is expected to be frosty, icy and cold, with brighter conditions in the west. Rain will spread eastwards during the afternoon, turning to snow in higher areas. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 3°C and 7°C.
