Afghanistan’s 16 member squad announced for ODI series against Ireland

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had announced a 16-member squad has for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Ireland.

The series is scheduled to be played in Oman. It was scheduled to be held in United Arab Emirates (UAE), however, ACB said that due to visa issues the series will be held in Oman.

The matches will be played on January 18, 21 and 23 at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Al Amerat.

Raees Ahmadzai, ACB’s Director of Cricket said: “The squad is selected keeping in mind the team balance, future plans as well as physical fitness of the players,”

Some of the Afghan players are in Australia and are currently playing in the on going Big Bash League (BBL). It is expected that they will join the squad before the series starts.

Afghanistan last played an International match in India and that was also against Ireland. The two teams faced each other in three T20Is in March in India.

Squad: Asghar Afghan(c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Rahmat Shah, Naveen ul haq, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan(vc), Yamin Ahmadzai, Usman Ghani, Azmatullah Omarzai, Gulbadin Naib Sayed Ahmad Shirzad, Javed Ahmadi, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Sharafuddin Ashraf.
