Intel is looking for 1600 computer experts in Ireland; great opportunity for professionals at Leixlip plant

DUBLIN: Intel’s Dublin Leixlip plant offers great opportunities for computer professionals. Intel plans to hire 1,600 experts. A modern microchip manufacturing system is being developed here. The company released details of the development of the Leixlip plant as part of its global expansion plans.

The company has invested $7 billion in Ireland over the past three years, said Pat Gelsinger, the company’s chief executive. The decision is aimed at accelerating investment in Europe. It also intends to support the EU’s ambition of having 20% of the world’s chips made locally.

“This investment is designed to bring Intel’s latest generation 7nanometre process technology to the region and expand our manufacturing operations. It will also drive economic growth in the region, creating 1,600 permanent high-tech jobs once complete and over 5,000 construction jobs,” Intel Ireland said in a statement. The company also believes that “there will be additional opportunity for investment in the region.”

Launched in 1989, Intel employs over 5,000 people. More than 5,000 people work in various European locations.

Intel plans to set up two chip manufacturing factories in Arizona at a cost of $20billion to operate in the European region.

Intel’s latest expansion announcement aims to restore the company’s reputation following a series of technical missteps. It also aims to meet the challenges posed by Taiwanese and Korean companies operating in the modern chip manufacturing sector. Intel’s share price rose 2.5% following the announcement of new expansion plans.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin and IDA CEO Martin Shanahan welcomed Intel’s latest announcement. The Taoiseach also said that the decision would increase Ireland’s global presence. Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said that Intel’s decision was “another huge vote of confidence in Ireland’s future.”
