Best 66 cities for expats worldwide: Spain’s Valencia tops the list, Dublin ranks 58th!
DUBLIN: The best 66 cities for expats around the world were identified in a survey of more than 15,000 expatriates conducted by InterNations, the world’s largest global community. The top two cities on the list are Valencia and Alicante in Spain. Meanwhile, Dublin, the only Irish city on the list, is ranked 58th.
InterNations is a leading network and information source for expats in 420 cities worldwide. The survey, which was conducted to determine annual expat city rankings, represented 173 nationalities residing in 181 countries or territories.
Survey participants were asked to rate 25 aspects of city life on a scale of one to seven. The expats’ ratings were then consolidated to create 13 subcategories and four topical indices such as quality of urban living, getting settled, urban work life and finance & housing. These ratings were then combined to rank all 66 cities.
Other cities in the top ten are Lisbon, Panama City, Singapore, Malaga, Buenos Aires, Kuala Lumpur, Madrid and Abu Dhabi.
Expats in Valencia are satisfied with the city’s cost of living, accessibility to healthcare, and climate. For five-fourths of the expatriates in Alicante, the city feels like home. All respondents in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, were happy with their personal safety.
Meanwhile, Singapore has been named Asia’s best city for expats. Expatriates in Abu Dhabi reported that the city is easy to live in. Salmiya in Kuwait is at the bottom of the list because expatriates in the city face overwork and domestic work.
