COVID-19: 1276 cases and eight deaths confirmed today in Ireland

New 1,276 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Ireland today. Further eight deaths have been reported by the health department.

The total number of cases in Ireland rose to 48,678. The death toll from COVID-19 in Ireland remains at 1,849.

Of the newly recorded deaths, one occurred in June, two in September and five in October.

Of the cases confirmed today,

  • 644 are men and 631 are women
  • 69% are under 45 years of age
  • Median age is 31

The capital recorded 278 cases. Of the remaining cases: 149 in Cork, 108 in Meath, 107 in Galway, 80 in Wexford, and 554 cases across the other 21 counties.

There are 260 COvid-19 patients in hospital, with 30 in ICU. An additional 12 hospitalisations have been made in the last 24 hours.

The government is likely to bring in Level-5 restrictions in Ireland on the recommendation of the NPHET in light of the increasing number of COVID cases on a daily basis.
