COVID-19: New 248 cases and five deaths confirmed in Ireland

In Ireland, 248 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed. This brings the total number of confirmed COVID cases in the country to 34,560.

The department of health reported five more death. The death toll from COVID infection in Ireland has risen to 1,802.

Of the confirmed cases today:

● 67% of today’s cases are under 45 years of age

● 36% of the cases are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case

● 36 cases have been identified as community transmission.

● Of today’s cases, 104 are in Dublin, 37 in Donegal, 36 in Cork, 8 in Kildare, 8 in Westmeath, 6 in Kilkenny, 6 in Laois, 6 in Offaly, 5 in Longford, 5 in Monaghan, 5 in Wexford, and the remaining 22 cases are in 11 other counties.

The Acting CMO Dr. Ronan Glynn said the health department is concerned about the significant increase in cases of young people in Donegal and Derry.

He advised the teenagers and those in their 20s and 30s to limit their social contact.
