COVID cases in Ireland are rising like a rocket; Tanaiste urged public to follow the guidelines
DUBLIN: Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has warned that the number of COVID victims could skyrocket in the coming weeks. Ireland will become the country with the most COVID patients in Europe if not all of us strictly follow the health guidelines. So far 1801 people have died of virus infection.
Since the inception of Pandemic, 37,063 positive cases have been confirmed in the Republic of Ireland. One death and 470 cases were confirmed in a single day yesterday.
The government expects this number to rise further. The highest number of cases per day was reported on April 23 (936). It seems that we are moving towards past again. Our country is following in the footsteps of France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Latvia, he said.
HSE chief Paul Reid also spoke in support of the warning. He said it would take a long time for Ireland to manage COVID even if a vaccine is used.
He also warned that the situation would worsen if everyone did not move forward with behavioral, social and health care changes.
