Djokovic defeats Tsitsipas to win French Open; 19th Grand Slam title

Serbian star Novak Djokovic has won the French Open a five-set thriller victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece. The world number one won the fight 6-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in a battle that lasted more than four hours.

Tsitsipas, who reached the French Open final for the first time, won the first two sets 7-6, 6-2 after a tough battle between the two. However, Djokovic became the clay court king, winning the next three sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

With this victory, the 34-year-old secured his 19th Grand Slam title and is just one title away from tying the record of 20 titles won by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the men’s category. Tsitsipas (22), who is playing in his first Grand Slam final, surrendered after shocking everyone.

This is Djokovic’s only second title win on clay court in Roland Garros. Prior to this, Djokovic won the title here in 2016. He had earlier defeated Spain’s Rafael Nadal, the “king of clay court,” in the semi-finals.
