Electricity Rates Decline Across Ireland: SSE Airtricity Leads with a 12.8% Reduction

Dublin: Electricity distribution companies across the nation have unveiled substantial rate reductions for consumers. SSE Airtricity is leading the initiative by reducing domestic electricity rates by 12.8 percent and domestic gas rates by 11.5 percent. This move follows a trend among energy providers to decrease charges, reflecting the decline in wholesale electricity prices, with further reductions anticipated in the coming months.

Five major companies, including Electric Ireland, Flogas, Board Gas Energy, Prepay power, and SSE Airtricity, had previously announced price cuts, which came into effect last month. SSE Airtricity’s latest adjustments will result in a notable annual reduction of €219.29 for a typical electricity customer and €157.07 for a typical gas customer. It is important to note that standing charges will remain unaffected, and these changes are set to take effect from February 1 of next year.

Klair Neenan, Managing Director of SSE Airtricity, expressed satisfaction in announcing these additional price reductions, emphasising the company’s commitment to benefiting its customers. With over 300,000 domestic customers in the Republic of Ireland, SSE Airtricity encourages any customers facing challenges in bill payment to reach out to their customer care team, as stated in the company’s official statement.
