Fully vaccinated people are exempted from mandatory hotel quarantine

DUBLIN: Those who have been fully vaccinated will be exempted from the mandatory hotel quarantine in Ireland and will be required to have a home quarantine instead. The announcement was made by Health Minister Stephen Donnelly. The minister also said the amendments to the legal system will take effect in the coming days.

The Israeli citizen, who had to go to the hotel quarantine despite being fully vaccinated, has approached the High Court against this and the overwhelming public support for this criticism has prompted the Department of Health to change the law.

This legal loophole was strongly criticised, even by some cabinet ministers. Ministers, including Higher Education Minister Simon Harris, have criticised mandatory hotel quarantine as illogical.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ronan Glynn said he was happy that those who had been fully vaccinated were exempted from the mandatory hotel quarantine. Minister Stephen Donnelly said the law was amended based on the NPHET’s recommendation.
