Golden Globes 2023: RRR wins its first award at the Globes

On January 11, the 80th Golden Globe Awards were hosted in Los Angeles (IST). RRR’s “Naatu Naatu” won the award for best original song at the event. The prize was accepted by music director MM Keeravani.

‘Naatu Naatu’ competed in the Best Original Song category against – ‘Carolina’ (Taylor Swift) from Where the Crawdads Sing, ‘Ciao Papa’ (Alexandre Desplat, Roeban Katz, and Guillermo del Toro) – ‘Hold My Hand,’ from Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (Lady Gaga, BloodPop, and Benjamin Rice) – Maverick and ‘Lift Me Up’ (Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson) from Top Gun – Wakanda Forever: Black Panther.

In addition, the film was nominated for “Best Non-English Language Film.” RRR was defeated by Argentina’s Argentina (1985) in the category of Best Non-English Language Film. Germany’s All Quiet on the Western Front, Belgium’s Close, and South Korea’s Decision to Leave were the other candidates in this category.

The Fabelmans received Best Motion Picture, and The Banshees of Inisherin won Best Musical/Comedy Motion Picture. Cate Blanchett (Tar) and Austin Butler (Elvis) were named Best Actor and Actress in a Motion Picture—Drama. Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything, Everywhere, All at Once) were named Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy/Musical, respectively.

Steven Spielberg was named Best Director for his work on The Fabelmans.
