Heavy Rain Triggers Orange and Weather Warnings Across Ireland and Northern Ireland
Dublin: The Met Office has forecast continued heavy rainfall across the Dublin region, with downpours that began at midnight persisting through the morning. In response, multiple weather warnings have been issued for regions across Ireland and Northern Ireland.
An Orange Weather Alert is currently in effect for Dublin, Louth, Wicklow, and Meath, in place from 12:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. today. The warning signals the potential for localised flooding, hazardous driving conditions, and disruptions to public transport services.
In Northern Ireland, the UK Met Office has issued an alert for Antrim, Armagh, and Down until 5:00 a.m., with a yellow alert remaining in place for these counties until 6:00 p.m. Forecasters are warning of 50 to 75 millimetres of rainfall, flash flooding, lightning strikes, and severely reduced visibility in affected areas.
Severe flooding has already been reported in Fermanagh, where several roads in the Enniskillen area have become impassable. According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), the Marble Arch Road, Florencecourt, and Sligo Road have all been closed due to flooding. Authorities have warned that many parts of West Fermanagh remain at high risk of further flood incidents.
Meanwhile, a Yellow Weather Alert has also been issued for Kildare and Monaghan, valid until 2:00 p.m., with officials urging motorists and the public to exercise caution due to potential surface water and poor driving conditions.
