Indian origin Neal Mohan to be new YouTube CEO

Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, announced her resignation in a blog post Thursday after nine years at the helm of the world’s largest online video network.
YouTube’s chief product officer, Neal Mohan, will take over as CEO, she said.

Ms. Wojcicki, 54, stated that she will prioritise “family, health, and personal initiatives that I am passionate about.” Wojcicki, a former Google senior vice president of ad products, was appointed CEO of YouTube in 2014.

She was one of Google’s earliest employees and has worked for parent firm Alphabet Inc. for over 25 years.

Neal Mohan, 47, is YouTube’s current chief product officer. He will soon take over as the video streaming service’s new CEO. Susan Wojcicki, who has led YouTube since 2014, will hand over the role to Mohan. Since joining YouTube in 2015, Mohan has been one of Wojcicki’s top lieutenants.

He is married to Hema Sareen Mohan, who has spent over two decades working in the non-profit and public welfare sectors.

Mohan worked as Google’s senior vice president of display and video advertisements from March 2008 to November 2015. Prior to that, he served as the senior vice president of strategy and product development at DoubleClick, a firm that provided online ad-serving services and was acquired by Google in 2007.

Mohan, a Stanford graduate, joined Google in 2008 and is the chief product officer at YouTube, where he is working on the development of YouTube Shorts and Music.

Mohan has also worked with Microsoft and currently serves on the boards of Stitch Fix and 23andMe, a genomics and biotechnology company.
