Dublin: A 30-year-old former UCD master’s student from New Delhi has been released on bail after pleading guilty to three incidents of public masturbation and sexual assault in Dublin.
Rishabh Mahajan, who arrived in Ireland to study at UCD’s Smurfit Business School, admitted to exposing himself on three separate occasions, each captured on CCTV. The case returns to court on May 19 for sentencing, pending a probation assessment.
The first victim, a woman working late on October 23, 2024, noticed Mahajan masturbating outside her office through a glass wall. Despite being asked to leave, he continued until gardaí arrived. He returned to the same premises twice more — on November 3–4 and at a later date — again masturbating while watching the woman. On the final occasion, he wiped his hands on the glass before fleeing.
Two further women also reported similar encounters. On October 11, Mahajan masturbated while watching a hostel cleaner, leaving when she alerted security. On Halloween night, he allegedly followed another woman in Dublin city centre and touched her bottom.
Mahajan was arrested on November 8 after gardaí reviewed CCTV footage. He claimed he could not recall the incidents, a statement rejected by the court. Gardaí noted he had been using cannabis but said his offences were unrelated to drugs.
Judge Martina Baxter described his behaviour as “shameful” and said Mahajan had effectively identified himself as a sex offender through his guilty pleas.
