Ireland Braces for Atlantic Storm Amid Brief Summer Interlude
Dublin – Ireland, which had begun to enjoy early signs of summer, is now preparing for a significant shift in weather conditions as Met Éireann forecasts a powerful storm approaching from the Atlantic Ocean this weekend.
Meteorologists have identified the arrival of a Theta-E plume — a warm, moisture-laden air mass — expected to first impact southern England and the East Midlands on Saturday before moving across to Ireland. The system brings with it an elevated risk of severe storms, prompting forecasters to issue early warnings.
According to the Met Office, a strong jet stream could drive multiple storm systems toward Ireland, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and potential localised flooding. The current spell of warm, sunny days is expected to be interrupted, with early June likely to be marked by unsettled and stormy weather, though conditions are forecast to improve by the end of the month.

- Wednesday is expected to remain mostly dry, with periods of sunshine and isolated showers, especially in the north and northwest. Cloud cover will gradually increase from the southwest later in the day, with widespread rain expected by nightfall. Daytime temperatures will range from 14°C to 18°C, with winds shifting from west to south.
- Thursday will see a mix of sunshine and scattered showers. Highs will range from 13°C to 17°C.
- Friday is forecast to be relatively dry with the potential for rain moving in from the south later in the day. Temperatures will remain moderate, between 14°C and 16°C.
- The weekend will be characterised by increased rainfall and stronger winds as the incoming storm system makes landfall. Conditions will remain volatile, with temperature fluctuations and intermittent rain likely to persist into early next week.
While a return to more settled, warmer weather is anticipated by late June, Met Éireann advises the public to monitor updates and prepare for possible disruptions caused by the incoming storm.
