DUBLIN: Ireland is to send 365 ventilators and oxygen generators to provide more assistance to India, which is under severe threat due to the rapid spread of COVID-19.
As part of the Emergency Material Donation, Ireland donated 700 oxygen concentrators to India yesterday. Ireland’s contributions are from stock purchased by the HSE for use in field hospitals as part of pandemic preparations.
The National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management coordinates Ireland’s relief efforts through the European Civil Protection Mechanism. It works with the Department of Health, the HSE, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Irish Aid, the Department of Transport and the Revenue Commissioners.
“I am happy that Ireland is in a position to make this further donation of equipment to our friends in India in this instance, supporting the provision of care to those most severely ill with COVID-19,” Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said.
Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney said that Ireland is also a partner in the European Union’s efforts to assist India. “By coordinating our efforts and pooling our resources, we are maximising our collective impact,” he said.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in India, with 3.79 lakh new cases reported in the last 24 hours. This is the country’s highest one-day rise to date. As of yesterday, more than 1.8 crore cases have been confirmed in India. And the death toll has risen to 2.04 lakh.
India has helped other, so now we have to help India, said Prince Charles

“Like many others, I have a great love for India and have enjoyed many wonderful visits to the country. Indian aid and ingenuity has been a support to other countries throughout this immensely difficult time. As India has helped others, so now must we help India,” he said.
