KKR won by seven Wickets, Gill awarded Man of the Match

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrises Hyderabad by seven wickets on the eighth match of Dream 11 IPL, 2020.

Even though the Knight Riders had a rough start to the tournament this year, after they lost their first match against the Mumbai Indians. They were able to bounce back on their second match by showing consistency in all part of the game.

KKR were sent to field first by David Warner after winning the toss. SRH was not having a good start as they expected. Their opening English batsman Jonny Bairstow went after scoring just five runs.

Even though the Hyderabad Captain David Warner (36) along with the young Indian batsmen Manish Pandey (51) made a small partnership, the KKR bowlers were consistent in picking up wickets at regular intervals.

SRH batsmen were totally dominated by the KKR bowlers throughout the match and thus they were able to resist the SRH total to 142 for four wickets in their 20 overs. Pat Cummins bowled with an excellent economy, he picked up one wicket by giving away just 19 runs in his four overs.

While batting second, KKR were also struggled in their powerplay, their opening all rounder Sunil Narine went for a duck. Later Indian Under 19 player, Shubman Gill (70) and Nitish Rana (26) rotated the strike and did the rescue operations for the Knight Riders.

Gill scored 70 off 62 balls with five boundaries and two sixes and also became the man of the match. Eoin Morgan who failed to dilever his best in their first match also joined the party against the SRH by scoring 42 runs of 29 balls, which includes three boundaries and two maximums.

“Nice feeling to get a win under our belt. It’s a long tournament, but obviously this win helps us get some momentum and confidence going,” Morgan said.

“Always good to get on board. We have been working really hard. I think one of the advantages of having all-rounders and it is a privilege to use them whenever I can. The fact that we have been able to groom the youngsters is pleasing.” The Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik said in the post match presentation ceremony.
