Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios Secures Miss Universe 2023 Title

Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios made history by becoming the first woman from her country to be crowned Miss Universe 2023 at a prestigious event. The official Miss Universe Twitter account shared a short video capturing the pivotal moment when Palacios answered a thought-provoking question in the final round.

The question posed to her was, “If you could live one year in another woman’s shoes, who would you choose and why?” In response, Sheynnis Palacios chose the influential Mary Wollstonecraft, a British writer, philosopher, and advocate of women’s rights. Palacios expressed her admiration for Wollstonecraft’s role in opening opportunities for women and emphasised her desire to bridge income gaps, enabling women to pursue careers without limitations. Palacios remarked, “That was 1750. Now, in 2023, we are making history.”

Palacios, who previously won Miss World Nicaragua 2020 and represented her country at the Miss World 2021 competition, reached the top 40 finalists. The top 10 finalists in the Miss Universe 2023 competition included representatives from Puerto Rico, Thailand, Peru, Colombia, Nicaragua, the Philippines, El Salvador, Venezuela, Australia, and Spain. Despite reaching the semi-finals, India’s Shweta Sharda did not advance to the final stage.
