Post-mortem completed: Gardaí launched a murder investigation into the deaths of a mother and children in Dublin

DUBLIN: The Gardai opened an investigation into the murder of a mother and two children who died last Wednesday at their home in Dublin.

Seema Banu (37), her two children, 11-year-old Asfira Riza and six-year-old Faizan Syed were found dead at their home in Ballinteer on Wednesday afternoon. Though it is understood that all three were strangled by a postmortem conducted yesterday, it has not yet been confirmed how this occurred.

However, Garda Headquarters clarified that they would not release the detailed result of the postmortems due to operational reasons and that no one has been arrested so far.

Gardai has no doubt that both children have been killed, but it is not clear how their mother, Seema Banu, has been fatally injured. Also they have yet to find out who was responsible for the deaths of the three.

Garda continues interviewing witnesses, conducting house-to – house inquiries and collecting and reviewing all relevant CCTV footage.

The investigation team was in touch with Seema Banu’s husband and appointed a family liaison officer. They have also been in contact with Seema’s family in India.

The deceased house has been sealed off as a crime scene for a third day today as a detailed forensic examination continues.

The house was partially flooded as a tap was left open in the room. A number of ligatures were also recovered from the scene.

Gardaí asked people not to share uninformed social media speculation because they say it will not help the investigation.

They appeal that anybody with knowledge about the incident contact the investigation team at Dundrum Garda Station on 01-6665600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
