Storm Floris Causes Widespread Disruption Across Ireland
Dublin – Storm Floris has brought significant disruption to parts of Ireland, with the worst-affected areas being counties Donegal and Roscommon. The storm has left over 10,000 homes, farms, and businesses without electricity and severely impacted daily life in the northern and western coastal counties.
Power outages began early in the morning, with over 4,000 customers in Galway initially affected. The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) has since confirmed that crews are working to restore power across the country, prioritising high-impact areas as quickly as weather conditions allow.
Despite the adverse weather, Dublin Airport remained operational, although Emerald Airlines was forced to cancel six flights on Monday. Passengers, particularly those travelling from or through Northern Ireland, have been advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest travel updates.
Weather Warnings in Effect
A Status Yellow Rain Warning remains in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo, while Clare, Galway, Mayo, and Sligo are also under a Status Yellow Wind Warning until 1 p.m. today.
In Northern Ireland, yellow wind warnings have been issued for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, warning of fallen trees, hazardous driving conditions, and potential structural damage. Travellers and residents alike are encouraged to avoid unnecessary journeys and to stay informed through official weather updates and local advisories.
