DUBLIN: The new Toyota Yaris, offered in either petrol or hybrid format, has been named 2021 Car of the Year for Europe. The Yaris victory was attributed to the company’s highly lauded GR rally-inspired version of the car.
The award winner was chosen by a 59-member jury, made up of automotive journalists from 22 countries.
The finalists for this year’s award were Citroën C4, Cupra Formentor, Fiat 500, Land Rover Defender, Škoda Octavia, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen ID.3.
The award process was a bit challenging due to COVID-19 pandemic. Journalists had to face difficulties in the proper testing of new cars.
The final result is as follows:
Toyota Yaris – 266 votes
New Fiat 500 – 240 votes
Cupra Formentor – 239 votes
Volkswagen ID.3- 224 votes
Skoda Octavia – 199 votes
Land Rover Defender – 164 votes
New Citroen C4 – 143 votes
