Tralee mourns the loss of Jessy Joy, former nurse at Our Lady of Fatima Home
Tralee, Ireland – The community of Tralee is saddened by the passing of Jessy Joy, a beloved former staff nurse at Our Lady of Fatima Home and devoted parishioner of St. Joseph’s Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church. Jessy, aged 33, and wife of Paul Kurian Matthil from Mannathur, County Kerry, Ireland, succumbed to a battle with cancer at Kerry General Hospital yesterday at 11 a.m.
Originally from Ramamangalam Ezhakarnad, Jessy came to Ireland two years ago, contributing her skills as a staff nurse at Our Lady of Fatima Nursing Home. Despite her recent job offer at Kerry General Hospital, she faced a health setback two months ago when diagnosed with a severe illness, preventing her from taking up the new position. Tragically, the disease progressed to Stage IV, making recovery impossible.
Jessy is survived by her husband, Paul Kurian Matthil, and their seven-year-old daughter, Eva. Her family, including her late father, CC Joy, and mother, Lizzie Joy, as well as her brother, Josie Joy, rallied around her during her illness. Jessie’s mother and brother flew in from their home in Ramamangalam, Ezhakarnad, to be by her side.
News of Jessy’s passing has brought together the Indian community in Kerry, with many expressing their condolences at Kerry General Hospital. In response to the unforeseen financial strain on Jessy’s family due to her illness and funeral expenses, a fundraising campaign has been initiated on GoFundMe. The campaign, initially started when Jessie fell ill, aims to support the family during this challenging time.
The funeral arrangements are being made to transport Jessy’s remains back to her home country, where family and friends will bid their final farewell.
