Trump Announces Two-Week Ceasefire with Iran as Strait of Hormuz Reopens

Donald Trump has announced a two-week ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Iran, with Tehran subsequently confirming its acceptance of the agreement.

The ceasefire, which Trump said was initiated at the request of Pakistan, includes a halt to all attacks for a 14-day period. He also stated that Iran has agreed to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a move expected to ease tensions in global energy markets.

According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz will be ensured during the ceasefire period with the cooperation of Iranian armed forces. Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue in the coming hours, with further peace talks aimed at extending the truce.

Shehbaz Sharif also indicated that the United States had accepted a set of conditions proposed by Iran during negotiations, although details of these terms have not been fully disclosed.

Reports suggest that the agreement to halt hostilities was closely linked to Iran’s decision to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil shipments.

Following the announcement, oil markets reacted positively, with prices falling to around $90 per barrel, reflecting improved confidence in the stability of global supply.
