30 people on Air India flight to Italy test positive for COVID-19; travel ban from India may be tightened further

Thirty people, including two crew members on an Air India flight that arrived in Italy, tested positive for coronavirus. More countries may decide to tighten the travel ban from India as a result of this.

The infection was confirmed in passengers, the captain who operated the aircraft, and the lead crew member, on Air India’s Delhi-Amritsar-Rome flight (AI 1123).

A total of 242 people were quarantined, including the infected. The Italian government had ordered all passengers coming from India to stay in quarantine for 10 days.

The United States, Australia and Canada have also tightened travel bans on India. Oman and Singapore had also banned flights from India. Meanwhile, Oman has indefinitely extended the entry ban on travelers from India due to the escalation of the coronavirus cases in India.
