Women’s cricket will be part of the Commonwealth Games, ICC announces

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to include women’s cricket in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. This is the first time in the history of the Commonwealth Games that women’s cricket is included.

Qualifying matches for the Commonwealth Games will be completed by January 31, 2022.

Birmingham will host the Commonwealth Games from July 28 to August 8, 2022. The winning team of the qualifying matches, the top six teams in the ICC T20 rankings on April 1, 2021, and host England will compete in the Games.

If the West Indies reach the top six, the team from the qualifying tournament for the Caribbean will also compete in the Games.

This is only the second time that cricket has been played at the Commonwealth Games. Men’s cricket was played at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur.
