1,000 New Jobs on the Horizon: Athenry to Host Major Manufacturing Facility; Galway’s Business Landscape Thrives

Dexcom, a leading medtech company, has received approval from the Galway County Council to construct a cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Athenry, County Galway. This development promises to bring a substantial economic boost to the region, creating 1,000 new job opportunities. The facility is set to house a state-of-the-art, highly automated manufacturing operation with a strong focus on environmentally friendly technologies.

During the construction phase of the Dexcom facility, approximately 500 jobs will be generated. Once the facility is fully operational, it is expected to provide a substantial workforce, offering up to 1,000 positions with a focus on high-tech graduate and technician roles.

In another development this week, the approval to install a 24-metre-tall telecommunications mast near a school in Kinvara has raised concerns among local residents, prompting plans for an appeal. The project entails the construction of a lattice telecommunications support structure, complete with antennas, dishes, and associated telecommunications equipment, all enclosed by security fencing, utilising an existing access track.
