40 Tesco stores across Ireland are to open for 24 hours from Dec 21

DUBLIN: To help make shopping easier for customers, Tesco will open 40 of its stores 24 hours in the week leading up to Christmas Day, officials said. The additional hours will begin from Monday December 21, which will open from 7am on a rolling 24-hour basis.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has become more complex, the company’s move is aimed at easing demand pressure during the busy week.

Kari Daniels, CEO, Tesco Ireland, said that the company will continue to make changes to its stores as it prepares for the Christmas trading season, and gives priority to the safety of its colleagues and customers.

“We hope that these extended hours, up to 24 hours in 40 of our larger stores during Christmas week, will help make the shopping trip easier for our customers,” he added.

Extended store opening hours will be in place across the entire 151 stores in the Ireland, with majority of those will operate from 7am until midnight beginning on Friday December 18. Of the 151 stores, 40 Tesco extra and superstores will switch to a 24 hour basis from Monday 21 until 7pm on Christmas evening.

During the Christmas week, the company will give priority access to stores throughout the day for those over the age of 65, family carers and the extremely medically vulnerable.

The company staff will be in place to man car parks, external queues and entrances. Tesco said its stores will be restocked with fresh products on a regular basis or several times a day.

The company also mentioned that from 14-17 December, there will be normal opening hours of 7 or 8am until 10 or 11pm.
