Denmark’s Christian Eriksen in stable condition after collapsing during match against Finland
Christian Eriksen, the Denmark midfielder who collapsed on the pitch during yesterday’s Euro Cup football match against Finland, has made significant progress in his health.
The 29-year-old received emergency medical treatment on the pitch immediately after collapsing, which was a crucial reason for his survival. The football world hailed match referee Anthony Taylor and captain Simon Kjaer for acting quickly to provide medical assistance.
Eriksson was taken to the hospital after given first aid on the ground. Luckily, he was conscious before leaving the stadium, and his condition stabilized once he received medical assistance at the hospital.
Eriksen collapsed three minutes before the end of the first half of the match, which began at 9:30 pm IST at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium. The incident occurred in the 42nd minute of the game when Eriksen’s teammate Thomas Delaney threw a ball towards him.
Danish players Delaney and Martin Braithwaite rushed to his aid and immediately asked for medical assistance. Referee Anthony Taylor and Denmark captain Simon arrived quickly on the scene and demanded urgent medical assistance. Eriksen’s teammates formed a ring around him while medics performed CPR on him. The CPR was effective, and he was soon carried off to the hospital in front of a loud ovation from the crowd at the stadium.
The game was initially suspended after the incident, and around one and a half hours later, UEFA said the match will resume “following the request made by both teams”. Peter Moller of the Danish Football Association said that Eriksen is doing well and they playing the match for him.
Denmark dominated in the ball possession, but Finland won the later resumed match 1-0, with Joel Pohjanpalo scoring in the 59th minute.
