New rules and regulations for indoor dining; no time limits, Customers leaving premises must have ‘non-transferable’ stamp or tag

DUBLIN: Ireland is gearing up to restart indoor hospitality on Monday, July 26, with new regulations in place. The working group on indoor hospitality met with industry representatives to provide an update on the new indoor dining regulations, which are set to be published soon.

There will be no time limit for dining and drinking in pubs and restaurants from next Monday. However all indoor services will still be required to cease operations by 11.30 pm.

Up to nine unvaccinated children may be accommodated at a table of six vaccinated adults. There was some confusion in the meeting about what social distance should be maintained between the tables. Industry sources said they were told tables will have to be two metres apart for families with children and one metre in other cases. However, government officials have said that this would not be the case.

Unvaccinated children under the age of 18 can accompany vaccinated adults into pubs, restaurants, and cafés under the new indoor dining system.

Advice on ventilation for businesses is also being drafted to help minimise the possibility of COVID-19 transmission.

New application and non-transferable stamp

The government is also working on a new app for verifying Digital Covid Certificates. People will be required to produce proof of identity in addition to their proof of vaccination, but it has yet to be decided what kind of identification would be acceptable.

According to the draft of new indoor dining regulations, customers would be required to alert a staff member and be provided with a clearly identifiable non-transferable tag/stamp if they intend to leave and later return to a premise. For example, if someone leaves a pub or restaurant to smoke outdoors, he or she will be issued a stamp or tag to return.
