Climate Activists Hurl Pea Soup on Van Gogh’s Painting in Rome
Rome: At Rome’s Palazzo Bonaparte museum, climate activists poured vegetable soup over Van Gogh’s famous painting The Sower. Museum security has been beefed up as attacks on artworks have become more common. Soup was spilled on the picture during yesterday’s protests in Rome, but it was not damaged because it was in a glass cage.
Van Gogh’s Sunflowers painting at the National Gallery in London was also vandalised a few weeks ago when activists from the UK-based Just Stop Oil threw tomato soup at it.
Governments are taking steps to protect artworks in museums, but climate activists question what steps are being taken to protect nature.
According to the police, the three young women who carried out the attack are Rome residents, and they have been charged with insulting cultural heritage.
