An Unexpected Journey premiered in Wellington on November 28, 2012, and was released by Warner Bros. Pictures on December 12 in New Zealand and December 14 in the United States. The film garnered mixed reviews from critics and earned over $1.017 billion at the box office, ranking it fourth in 2012. The film won multiple honours, including nominations for Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Visual Effects at the 86th Academy Awards.

The first song from All Hail the Queen was “Wrath of My Madness,” which was later sampled in Yo-Yo’s “You Can’t Play With My Yo-Yo.” “Mama Gave Birth to the Soul Children” peaked at number 14 in the United Kingdom.
