If you start the vehicle and leave, you will be fined up to 2000 euros

DUBLIN: Gardaí have warned that “drowning” cars will be heavily fined for starting cars covered in ice, including window skins, thinking they will warm up. The temperature here dropped to minus 4 last night. Following this, many cars in the public parking lot were covered in “snow.” Many drivers were unable to drive their cars. Then they started the vehicle and went inside the house, and so on.

When this was noticed, the Gardai came with a warning. Anyone found guilty of this offence faces a €2,000 fine or three months in jail, according to the garda.

Under Ireland’s Road Traffic Act 1961, it is an offence to operate an engine without a driver on a public road. A spokesman for the Department of Transport also confirmed that if this law is broken, heavy fines will be imposed.
