This year, Ireland issued about 11 lakh passports

Dublin: The Department of Justice and Immigration has issued over one million Irish passports, a new record in the country’s history. This year, 1080,000 passports have been issued. The previous record was set in 2019 with 935,000 passports issued. The government announced on November 1 that one million passports had been issued. It was a post-Covid pandemic passport issuance record.

This year, 1.15 million applications were received. One million of these were from Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom. Aside from that, the most online applications came from the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, France, Spain, Germany, and South Africa. The highest age of passport applicants was 102 and at least three days.

This year, the most common surname in passports is Murphy. The most popular female names are Emily, Fiad, and Lily. Noah, Jack, and James are for boys or men. With over 41,000 calls during the month, August saw the highest number of customer service hub phone calls. With over 23,000 chats handled on the webchat service in July, it was the busiest month.

Foreign Minister Micheal Martin stated that 1.1 million passports are expected to be issued by the end of the year.
