India to make negative Covid test mandatory for travellers from these countries
Passengers travelling from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand—countries that have recorded a large increase in COVID cases—may be required to undergo obligatory negative RT-PCR testing beginning next week, according to news agency PTI.
As the Centre has increased surveillance and requested states to be vigilant in light of the global surge in COVID cases, at least 39 overseas travellers coming in India have tested positive during random airport testing. “39 overseas travellers were detected positive for COVID-19 out of 6,000 tested on arrival in the previous two days,” government sources told PTI.
This comes as Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya prepares to visit New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport tomorrow to examine the screening measures.
According to health experts, India will experience a COVID rise in January. Cases are expected to increase, particularly in the following 40 days. The warning was issued based on prior year’s readings.
Following the outbreak, India has begun to keep a watchful eye on the pandemic ahead of the New Year. The Centre or the states have not imposed any restrictions on festivities but have asked people to behave responsibly. Hospitals around the country held a simulated drill to ensure they were ready to cope with any COVID-19-related incident.
With only 27% of the eligible adult population having received the precautionary dose, government officials have urged those who are scheduled to receive it to do so.
