Moldova: Tens of thousands rally in Moldova for EU membership

Chisinau: Thousands of Moldovans rallied in the capital city of Chisinau to protest against Russia’s attempts to destabilise their country and to support its move to join the European Union.

Moldova’s bid to join the European Union continues, despite the impact of Moscow’s invasion of neighbouring Ukraine.

President Maia Sandu accused Russia of trying to subvert European integration by gathering people for protests and propaganda against the Moldovan government. Ms. Sandu said at a rally organized by the government that she will not allow Russia to blackmail her. She stated that the government’s goal is for Moldova to join the European Union by 2030.

Police said more than 75,000 demonstrators took part.
