“Major Earthquake Strikes Northern Japan, Triggering Tsunami Warning”

A powerful earthquake, registering at a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale, has struck northern Japan, prompting the Japan Meteorological Agency to issue a tsunami warning for coastal areas. Authorities, acknowledging the potential danger, have urgently directed the immediate evacuation of residents from the affected areas.

The warning underscores the risk of waves reaching heights of up to five metres, with specific tsunami alerts issued for neighbouring Niigata and Toyama, cautioning of potential three-metre-high waves in both locations. Following the initial seismic event, numerous aftershocks have been reported.

In response to the emergency, all high-speed train services in Ishikawa have been temporarily suspended. Video footage capturing the earthquake’s impact reveals significant ground fissures and people evacuating buildings. Despite the intensity of the earthquake, as of now, there have been no reported casualties or damages. The situation is being closely monitored as authorities work to ensure the safety of the affected regions.
