“New Hourly Train Service Links Dublin and Belfast”

Dublin: A new hourly train service connecting Dublin to Belfast is set to become a reality, thanks to the €800 million NI Shared Islands funding package.

Of this funding, €12.5 million has been allocated specifically for the establishment of the Belfast/Dublin train service. Additionally, the government recently unveiled a huge package designed to foster comprehensive development across the island. Among its provisions is funding for a water bridge linking the Cooley Peninsula in Louth to the Mourne Mountains in Down.

This package also includes substantial allocations, such as €600 million for the upgrade of the A5 road and €50 million for the redevelopment of the GAA Stadium in West Belfast’s Casement Park. This stadium, slated to host matches for the Euro 2028 football tournament, is anticipated to accommodate 34,578 spectators upon completion of renovations. It is one of the designated host venues for the prestigious championship.

Despite previous setbacks, including delays in construction commencement after planning permissions were granted in 2013 and 2017, the redevelopment of Casement Park is now poised to move forward.

Acknowledging the significance of infrastructure development, DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson expressed support for the development package while emphasising the importance of UK government funding for infrastructure projects in Northern Ireland.
