Almost 2,000 refugees who arrived in Dublin are missing!

Dublin: Officials are grappling with the challenge of tracking nearly 2,000 refugee men in the Dublin region of Ireland, whose whereabouts remain largely unknown. Reports reveal that these individuals are navigating the city without fixed accommodations.

Previously, some refugees residing in tents along Mount Street and the Grand Canal Road in Dublin had been relocated multiple times. However, despite efforts, a portion of them still persist in residing in tents along the Grand Canal Road. This situation has raised concerns among volunteers regarding the whereabouts of the remaining individuals.

Refugees have dispersed across various locations, seeking shelter in churches, hostels, or even on the streets, with no centralised count or record. This lack of comprehensive data has fueled uncertainties regarding their locations. Refugees hailing from countries such as Pakistan, Somalia, and Palestine are awaiting shelter in different parts of the capital city.

While some refugees diligently visit the International Protection Accommodation Service to update their information, the majority remain unaccounted for by municipal bodies and the government.

Efforts have been made to provide temporary accommodation, including the establishment of tents in Crooksling and at the former Central Mental Hospital site in Dundrum. Starting on April 30, international protection applicants were housed on Mount Street and by the Grand Canal.

The Department of Integration underscores its commitment to prioritising accommodation for refugees. It asserts the existence of a clear priority list, with collaboration from Homeless Day Services and the Irish Refugee Council.
