Irish Passports Ranked Fourth in Global Henley Passport Index….

DUBLIN: Ireland’s passport has climbed to fourth place in the Henley Passport Index, reflecting the number of countries to which Irish citizens can travel visa-free. This advancement from sixth place highlights the growing strength and global acceptance of the Irish passport. However, this surge comes amidst increased applications and the challenges posed by technological advancements.

Renewing Passports from Anywhere

Irish citizens now enjoy the convenience of renewing their passport book and card from virtually anywhere in the world. With online application services available in over 70 countries, more than 90 percent of Irish citizens opt to renew their passports online. For adult renewals, the process takes approximately 10 days, while children’s passports and more complex cases require 15 days.

Timely Processing and Advisories

For online applicants, passports are typically received within 20 working days. In contrast, postal applications can take up to eight weeks. Applications needing additional documents are processed within 15 working days from the receipt of those documents. Irish holidaymakers are advised to check the validity of their passports and utilise new online tools designed to streamline the process.

Deputy Prime Minister’s Pride

Deputy Prime Minister Micheál Martin expressed pride in the Irish passport’s high ranking, emphasising its value and international strength. He commended the diligent efforts of the staff who maintain the integrity of the Irish passport and underscored the importance of the passport in ensuring safe travel for citizens. Martin highlighted this year as particularly busy for the passport service and encouraged the use of online services for renewals and applications.
