Varadkar Reports Gardaí After Confrontation in Dublin
Dublin: Former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has confirmed he contacted Gardaí after being aggressively confronted by two men while walking on Parnell Street in central Dublin on Monday afternoon. A video of the incident, lasting just over 90 seconds, was later posted online by far-right activist Paul Nolan and has been viewed more than 27,000 times.
Varadkar’s Response
Mr Varadkar said the confrontation was a “rare occurrence” but insisted he would not be intimidated.
“I’ll not be told by anyone where I cannot walk in my own city, least of all Parnell Street, the street on which I was born,” he stated.
Details of the Video
In the footage, the men cycle towards Mr Varadkar, shouting insults and repeatedly calling him a “traitor”. Varadkar, wearing earphones, initially ignored them but later began filming the encounter himself, responding calmly: “Enjoy your day, gentlemen.”
