Investigation Launched into Major Passenger Data Leak at Dublin and Cork Airports

Dublin: Authorities have launched an investigation into a potential large-scale data breach involving passenger boarding pass information from Dublin and Cork airports. The Data Protection Commission (DPC) confirmed that the probe is underway, but the number of affected passengers and the nature of the leaked data remain unclear. Early reports suggest that millions of passengers could be impacted.

According to the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA), the breach originated from a technical failure in the IT systems of third-party supplier Collins Aerospace, which manages aspects of the airports’ boarding pass operations. The leaked data reportedly includes boarding pass files for all departures from Dublin Airport between August 1 and 31, 2025.

The DAA stated that it was alerted after the cybercriminal group responsible allegedly posted the files online. A preliminary report was submitted to the Data Protection Commission on September 19, after Collins Aerospace notified the DAA of the system failure.

The investigation is being jointly conducted by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), Data Protection Commission (DPC), National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), and the affected airlines.

A DAA spokesperson emphasised that there is no evidence of any direct impact on the DAA’s own systems, and therefore no immediate action is required from passengers who travelled during August. However, travellers are urged to remain vigilant for any suspicious activity related to their flight bookings or personal data.
