Car of Indian Family Set on Fire

Londonderry: An Indian family in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, faced a shocking attack early Friday when unknown assailants set fire to their car parked outside their home. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Irish Green Street in Limavady, completely destroying the vehicle.

The fire also damaged a telephone pole and fence in the family’s yard. Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that an investigation is underway and that officers are examining CCTV footage and mobile recordings from the area.

The incident comes just a week after another attack targeting an Indian family, where all four tyres of their car were slashed. In response to these repeated incidents, Indian community groups have urged members to remain vigilant through local WhatsApp networks, warning that similar problems have been reported in various parts of Northern Ireland.

Although authorities have not yet confirmed the attack as racially motivated, community leaders have expressed concern over a rise in racist incidents across County Londonderry. Reports indicate that at least five racist attacks have occurred in the region recently.

DUP Councillor Aaron Cullen strongly condemned the attack, saying, “Such violence has no place in our society. Limavady is a welcoming community, and we stand united against all forms of racial and sectarian hatred.”

Earlier incidents include the assault of Indian youths in Coleraine and a brutal attack on a middle-aged Indian man with kidney disease at Belfast City Hospital railway station in early October. The man was attacked on Donegal Road, where a business was also looted in a racially motivated incident. Police later arrested a 12-year-old boy in connection with that case.
