A vibrant Women’s Day rally was held in Dublin to promote women’s rights

Dublin: On International Women’s Day, a vibrant march of women took place in Dublin, demanding that the government take immediate action on the various issues that women face. Ignoring the bad weather, hundreds of women marched with placards and raised slogans. The participants of the march loudly said that the rights and struggles of immigrants and women are the same.

Along with transgender flags, Iranian flags were flown throughout the rally in solidarity with Iran’s feminist movement. Throughout the rally, placards with messages like women, life, freedom, women’s rights, immigration rights, same survival, same fight, and women’s unity can never be defeated were seen. The leaders addressed the women gathered on Kildare Street near Leinster House.

Participants in the rally criticised the government’s decision to lift the ban on forced evictions of tenants.

A representative of AkiDwA, a national organisation of migrant women living in Ireland, said that migrant women are the most vulnerable to domestic violence. They stressed how the threat of homelessness, legal uncertainty, and discrimination make them even more vulnerable.

The rally also criticised transphobic and homophobic hatred in Ireland. A representative of Women’s Collective Ireland called for an end to homelessness and for government investment in women’s health and care.
