The counting of votes for the assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, and the union territory of Puducherry started at 8 am on Sunday.
West Bengal is witnessing a neck-and-neck contest between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the BJP after the first results came out. At present, the Trinamool is leading in 46 seats and the BJP in 43 seats. The Left has managed to lead only in two seats.
The BJP claims that it will be able to gain power in Bengal by winning more than 100 seats.
Elections were held in Bengal for 294 Assembly seats. Meanwhile, a partial lockdown has been announced in Bengal in view of the spread of COVID-19.
BJP in Assam
The first results from Assam are in favor of the BJP. The BJP is currently leading in 51 seats, while the Congress is leading in 29 seats. The AJP is leading in only three seats. In Assam, the contest was for 126 Assembly seats.
