Conflict in Dublin City Centre; fireworks were thrown at Gardai, many protesters arrested

DUBLIN: The Gardai had to use force in Dublin City Center to disperse a crowd of thousands who had gathered to protest COVID-19 restrictions.

Gardaí used batons as they pushed protesters while fireworks and other things were thrown. Several people have been arrested.

Protesters were planning to assemble for an anti-lock-down rally at about 2:00 pm today in St. Stephen’s Green. The park was closed at around 1 pm ahead of the protest at the behest of the Gardai.

As protesters later tried to move to Grafton Street, Gardai used batons and the situation got worse.
