Cork-based process automation company SimoTech announces 70 new jobs

CORK: Cork-based SimoTech plans to hire 700 people over the next two years as part of its global expansion. The majority of the new positions will be created at the company’s Carriagaline base.

The process automation services and manufacturing IT systems company for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries announced the creation of new roles in the areas of Process Automation, Computer System Validation, Lab Informatics, IT Infrastructure, and Project Management.

Some 20 of the 70 jobs will support company’s overseas work from Ireland. SimoTech has signed a contract in Singapore and is working on a major capital project in the Asia-Pacific region with a leading vaccine provider.

“SimoTech is an integral player in the global supply chain for pharmaceutical products, and in engineering the vital technologies that support their manufacture,” said Pat Desmond, SimoTech’s CEO.

The company intends to grow its presence across Europe, the US, and Asia in the coming years, and the job hires are just the first step.

The CEO said that the adoption of smart manufacturing technology has enabled them to provide 24/7, remote services to their clients anywhere in the world. He said that technology has allowed these businesses to continue operating their plants during the Pandemic.

“By providing these vital services remotely, we are also able to expand our business abroad while still supporting job creation at home in Ireland,” Mr. Desmond added.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin welcomed the announcement, saying SimoTech is a great example of the type of technical innovation offered in Ireland. “Biotech and pharma are crucial sectors for the Irish economy and having home-grown companies of the calibre of SimoTech is essential to that success,” the Taoiseach said.

Martin Corkery, Regional Director for the South and South East at Enterprise Ireland, said SimoTech’s announcement is a sign of significant development for both the company and Ireland’s life sciences sector.
