COVID-19: Five deaths and 423 new cases confirmed yesterday in Ireland

DUBLIN: The Department of Health has confirmed five additional deaths and 423 new cases of COVID-19 in Ireland yesterday.

Four of the deaths occurred in April, while one occurred in February.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ireland is now 239,325. The death toll from COVID-19 is 4,732.

Of the cases confirmed yesterday, 219 were men and 201 were women. The median age of those who tested positive was 30 years old, and 73% of those who tested positive were under 45 years old.

199 of the new cases are in Dublin, 41 in Kildare, 23 in Meath, 20 in Galway, 18 in Westmeath and the remaining 122 spread across 19 other counties. 

As of yesterday morning, 232 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized, with 56 in ICU.  

The 14-day incidence rate in Ireland is 151.6 per 100,000 of the population. Offaly has the highest national incidence rate at 366.9 cases per 100,000 population, followed by Westmeath and Laois at 268.1 and 232.6 respectively. Sligo (22.9), Kerry (27.8), and Kilkenny (34.3) have the lowest incidence rates.

As of 4 April, 936,087 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered in Ireland. 663,411 people received their first dose, and 272,676 received their second dose.
